The 5 SEO Recommendations That Matter in the End

by | Jun 9, 2019 | Blog

In my line of work, dealing with SEO is pretty much standard so I know first-hand how quickly things change in that field. This makes it hard to measure its impact to understand what works and what doesn’t.

However, over the years, I’ve come to realize there are some SEO recommendations that remain steadfast, having an impact that can be both identified and quantified. These recommendations are based on what I have tested and seen to have a consistently positive impact on my digital marketing case studies. Of course, not all of them might be applicable to you and your industry but you can take them and tailor them according to you your site’s (and client’s) specific needs.

  • Internal linking still matters.

While there’s no right or wrong balance when it comes to how many internal links you should have, not having too many links on a single page can actually be a good thing. Internal links dictate how crawlers and users discover pages on your site. When thinking about adding internal links to your homepage, consider how much revenue the linked pages will bring as well as the likelihood of these pages to compete and improve your site ranking.

  • The freshness of your content will impact your ranking.

Constantly updating your site with fresh content helps improve ranking. One simple way to signal page freshness is by adding a date to your page, especially if you’re dealing with something like news, events or blogs. Users tend to consider fresh pages to be more relevant, although this depends on the subject. Therefore ensure your content is fresh and it always reflects what users are searching for.

  • Changing your title tags might have positive results.

Depending on your industry, changing title tags can sometimes have a positive impact. This works best if you have seasonal products or if you are in an industry that heavily competes on prices. Changing title tags to reflect these aspects can lead to more conversion so don’t be afraid to test and see what’s beneficial for you.

  • Structured data is important.

Structured data makes it easier and faster for search engine crawlers to understand the information within a page. Applied correctly, this can have a huge positive impact on your page ranking. Just remember to tailor your structured data to different sites as well as the different pages within the site.

  • Do your best to obtain organic backlinks.

Obtaining organic external links to your site shows your authority in a particular field. One of the best ways of getting backlinks is by building creative pages i.e. coming up with interesting or informative campaigns or articles related to your business. This will attract users who will then link back to your articles, spreading its popularity.
