Marketing-The-Dixie-State-University-Campus-StoresAfter my time in student government, I began working part-time for the university campus stores as the marketing director. I oversaw all the traditional and online marketing of all retail stores in Dixie State. Marketing around five retail outlets, some open year around and some seasonal.

Retargeting my skills learned in student government toward a revenue driven, product focused organization versus the funded, community campaigns that I did for student government really helped take my skills to a new level. I learned so much having revenue goals as a focus for all my marketing tactics. Working for the campus stores, I set my own tasks and build my own goals to get things done.  Working there taught me that there’s no need for micromanaging if you can learn to focus on building yourself to be a task oriented worker. There is always something to add to the list when it comes to marketing.

The Goal Of The Campus Stores

The goal of this project was to drive sales, increase revenue and engagement at the campus stores. Engaging students within the small southern Utah community and Dixie State University was the primary target market. I geared all the marketing on and off campus to micro target our customers and do our very best to serve and engage them.

The Results Of The Project

Over the time I spent at the camp at stores I had a lot of improvements in my skills and practices. I learned what helps increase the campus store’s involvement.

Results Of Micro Targeted Marketing:

  • Exponential growth of social media platforms
  • Redesigned website for a better user experience & increased sales
  • Effective email newsletter campaign that drove returning customer sales
  •  Positive involvement from students interacting in sweepstakes & competitions online and off-line
  • Market analysis from data collection helped understand the target market.

The Lesson Learned

Over my very short time at the campus stores I learned an  exceptional amount about marketing and what really drives customers to buy and bring businesses real results. The campus stores was a great experience and an incredible job to prepare me for the agency style marketing experience I would soon learn at Voxxy.
